Forensic Team

Community Support Services offers a comprehensive community-based forensic mental health program. This program works with clients from the point of a finding by the court of Incompetent to Stand Trial or Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. When a client with this legal status is eligible for release from the state hospital, he or she is placed on Conditional Release (CR). CR provides the needed continuity of care as a client transitions from the state hospital to a less restrictive setting while under the court’s jurisdiction.

The goal of the program is to provide an intensive level of behavioral health services in the least restrictive setting consistent with public safety and the welfare of the client.

Clients on CR typically are required to maintain at least weekly contact with the case manager. He or she will be scheduled to see the psychiatrist at least monthly. The client will likely be expected to participate in a weekly counseling group. The agency is required to make regular reports to the court regarding the client’s participation and progress.
