The Community Support Services, Inc. Alphonso Turner Homeless Outreach Center helps those who are homeless and in need of mental health treatment.

The Homeless Outreach program helps nearly 100 individuals each year by assisting individuals with securing treatment and housing. These housing options may be emergency shelters, transitional housing or permanent housing. Most referrals to the Homeless Outreach Center come from emergency shelters, hospitals, area churches, social service agencies, area law enforcement and healthcare providers.

Individuals accepted into the Homeless Outreach Program must:
  • Be homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • Have severe and persistent mental illness
  • Not be engaged in treatment
*If a homeless individual does not meet program criteria, outreach workers attempt to connect the individual with other community agencies and/or services/programs that work with the diverse homeless population.

The Alphonso Turner Homeless Outreach Center located at 640 Wolf Ledges in Akron, has a lobby with comfortable seating, showers, laundry facilities and a telephone for homeless individuals to use. The Outreach Program is partially funded by a federal formula grant- the Projects to Assist in Transition from Homelessness (PATH).

Donations to support the Homeless Outreach Program can be sent to the Community Support Services Development Department at 150 Cross Street, Akron, Ohio 44311.
