Margaret Clark Morgan Integrated Primary Care Clinic
In 2008, Community Support Services launched the Margaret Clark Morgan Integrated Primary Care Clinic in an effort to improve the quality of physical health care received by persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Research has demonstrated the need for the integration of physical healthcare and behavioral healthcare as individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses have a life expectancy nearly 25 years shorter than persons who do not have severe and persistent mental illnesses.
The clinic offers persons receiving services from Community Support Services with a place to receive care for disease management and wellness management. On-site laboratory services are also available all agency clients. Additionally, podiatry services are available on-site to address the foot care needs of persons receiving services from the agency.
Community Support Services is also the recipient of a 4-year SAMHSA grant focused on the integration of primary and behavioral health as well as emphasizing wellness. With this funding, Community Support Services has on-site yoga, smoking cessation, health and wellness education, and a dietician. Additionally, Recovery Specialists work with clients at the YMCA three days a week and end the week with a Walk with the Doc. Through this focus on wellness, many clients have found the needed motivation to make significant lifestyle changes.
