Community Support Services provides a full range of psychiatric and psychological services, including comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, psychotropic medication management, personality and neuro-psychological testing, and counseling. Services are provided in outpatient, inpatient, correctional, and nursing home settings. Psychiatrists and psychologists provide clinical supervision and consultation to all CSS teams.
In addition to certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, many CSS psychiatrists have added qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, or Addiction Psychiatry.
Approximately a third of CSS psychiatrists have admitting privileges at both Akron General Medical Center and the Summa system, which consists of St. Thomas Medical Center and Akron City Hospital. Nearly all psychiatric hospitalizations of individuals served by CSS occur at one of these facilities. Occasionally, an individual is admitted to North Coast Psychiatric Services, a state facility CSS works closely with.
Many medical staff members hold faculty appointments at the Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. These doctors conduct seminars on community psychiatry, psychopharmacology, medico-legal issues, and other topics for psychiatric residents. Third-year psychiatry residents also receive supervision from CSS psychiatrists during their community psychiatry and inpatient rotations.
The Psychology Department at Community Support Services, Inc. offers psychological consultations involving neuropsychological assessments, differential diagnosis, treatment issues, risk assessment, and various types of competency (including trial competency restoration, guardianship, disability, commitment, and capacity to manage funds). In addition, the psychology staff provides individual and group psychotherapy, staff training, program development, research, and outcome evaluations.
