Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a referral to Employment services?
All you need to do is pick of the phone and dial extension 415 if inside the CSS campus or call any CSS phone number and ask for extension 415. The actual process takes no longer than 5 minutes.

After the referral is made, how long before a person will actually begin services?
Generally speaking, the person will begin the initial steps of services the following week. It rarely will take longer than two weeks before services begin.

How do I know when someone is ready to pursue work?
If the person expresses an interest in working, and they are progressing well in their treatment, we suggest that you make the referral to Employment services. We will meet with the person and help make the determination if now is the best time to pursue work.

What is the difference between Vocational services and Employment services?
Vocational typically refers to those services that are dealing with issues of readiness to work. These may include Job Try Out, Pre-employment group, GED to name a few.

Employment are those services that are related to helping a person either directly pursue work or to maintain a job they already have. These are often BVR funded services and include services such as Job Development, Job Coaching and Vocational Evaluation.

Will a person always lose their social security and Medicaid benefits upon start of work?
NO. Regardless if the person is on SSI or SSDI, there are many new options available to keep the person either on or immediately eligible for a return to any of these options. We offer a Benefits Management service that fully explores these options and will provide and explanation of each person's individual status.

If I have a question on someone's progress, whom can I talk to for an update?
One of the recent changes is that each person in services now has an individual "Recovery Specialist" responsible for plan development and progress. This person will be able to give you an up to date status of progress. If you do not know who this person is, you may either ask your employment representative in team meeting or call extension 415. Either source will tell you the Recovery Specialist working with the person in question.
