Community Support Services utilizes qualified volunteers to enhance, augment and add to the efforts of paid professional staff in the role of service providers. The Volunteer program coordinates many projects throughout the year to assist clients with their basic needs.
Volunteering at CSS is an opportunity to experience personal growth, gain professional training and valuable work experience. All volunteer hours are documented and some volunteer hours may fulfill coursework requirements toward a degree.

- Vocational Assistant
- Client Cupboard: this project provides emergency requests of personal hygiene items and cleaning supplies for individuals in need.
- Holiday Giving Project: this project provides gifts for needy individuals during the holidays.
- Housewarming Project: this project gives housekeeping supplies to individuals who have moved into a new residence.
- Needy Soles Program gives new shoes to individuals who need them.
The Housewarming Project and Needy Soles Program are funded by the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Summit County (NAMI).

CSS accepts year round donations for programs that benefit individuals with mental illnesses including the Client Cupboard and Holiday Giving Project. Monetary donations can be sent to CSS, c/o the Development Department, 150 Cross Street, Akron, Ohio 44311.
