Thoughts on Growing a Non-Profit

I was browsing the brochures of Community Support Services (CSS) when I first joined the team last fall. There was one brochure that really stood out to me, because it listed all the programs and services offered at CSS. I was astonished at the number.

How and why did CSS end up having so many services?

In 2015, there were 18 programs and services. Compare that to the 30+ services offered today. In the same amount of time, the number of people served by CSS grew to over 5,000. Those are more than just numbers. They represent an ever-growing demand for our services. Today, just as it was in 2015, the greatest number of individuals are served through CSS' case management program. Whether the need is a home, a job, healthcare, or psychiatry, a case manager is a problem solver, providing every person they care for the best opportunity for recovery by locating the required resources. Despite intense searching, the solutions weren't always available.

To fill those gaps, sometimes CSS had to build our own solutions. We added programs like the Homeless Outreach Center, to provide basic needs for individuals without a stable home. The Primary Care Clinic gives the peace of mind that comes with accessible healthcare. We added housing units like the apartments at Stoney Pointe, so a person could stand tall in their own home. Adding and expanding services allowed us to meet more needs of more people.

Almost doubling capacity in ten years is a big accomplishment, and we're proud we've done it - especially because there is a great need for all of them. The care we provide will always be our highest priority. After all, that's how and why we developed the programs we have in place today. It's a daily effort, making these offerings available and ready for those who need them. With your support, we're meeting that challenge.

All my best,
