Community Support Services is proud to offer several programs exclusively for veterans of our armed forces. We recognize that the needs of and challenges faced by veterans are unique and strive to provide high-quality supports that promote wellness.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families

CSS serves as the lead agency for one of two Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) programs in Summit County. SSVF is located at CSS’s Homeless Outreach Center located at 111 E. Voris St. in Akron. Our SSVF providers meet regularly with the VA, Homeless Outreach, and Summit County Continuum of Care to coordinate resources, identify gaps in services provided and problem solve on behalf of our clients.

To complete an initial intake and screening for the SSVF program, call 2-1-1.

Veteran Safe Haven

Since 2014, the Veteran Safe Haven has offered a safe and secure environment for veterans experiencing homelessness and struggling with mental illnesses to engage in treatment at their own pace. Safe Haven tenants sign a traditional tenant/landlord lease and are required to pay 30% of their income towards rent. Tenants are encouraged, but not required, to utilize provided services, including medical and psychiatric treatment through the VA. Referrals to the Veteran Safe Haven are typically made by VA-related providers or by caseworkers through SSVF.

Suicide and Crisis Lifeline - 988

For those who serve or who have served, crises can be heightened by their experiences during military service. If you're a veteran or service member and in crisis, you can reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling 988 and dialing 1, or text to 988. In addition, these resources can help.
