AKRON, Ohio - Community Support Services (CSS) today announced that Michael Gaffney, Director of Marketing and Development, will retire effective Dec. 31, 2025, following a distinguished career with CSS among several non-profit organizations in the Akron community. Laura Villwock has been named his successor and assumed the role as the new Director of Marketing and Development, officially joining CSS at the end of September 2025.

Gaffney has been a vital part of the CSS leadership team, dedicating years of service to advancing the organization’s mission and securing crucial resources for its programs.

"Michael’s dedication has been instrumental in expanding our reach and impact throughout the community. His collaboration with important partners like the ADM Board and NAMI Summit County has helped to build awareness of the issue of mental health in our region. We are profoundly grateful for his leadership and wish him a happy and fulfilling retirement,” said Robert Stokes, president and CEO of CSS.

Villwock has been working closely with Gaffney since late September 2025 to ensure a seamless transition. Villwock brings extensive experience in non-profit management and community outreach, including time with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Cleveland Ballet, and Direction Home. Villwock also brings a strong personal commitment to the mission of Community Support Services.

“I can speak for all at Community Support Services when I express how thrilled we are to have Laura join our team,” added Leslie Powlette Stoyer, CSS’ Chief Operating Officer. “Laura's comprehensive experience and vast network will be a huge asset in continuing our outreach to educate and engage the greater Summit County community on our mission and services. We are so fortunate to have her expertise and leadership in the role as our new marketing and development director.”

Community Support Services looks forward to this new chapter under Villwock's leadership while celebrating Gaffney’s legacy. Gaffney’s last day of service will be Dec. 31, 2025.
