Congratulations are in order for Dr. Sara West, who recently was named Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

West was elected to receive the honor by the American Psychiatric Association Board of Trustees. It is the highest membership honor the APA bestows on its members.

The honorary distinction is awarded to “outstanding psychiatrists who have made significant contributions to the psychiatric profession in at least five of the following areas: administration, teaching, scientific and scholarly publications, volunteering in mental health and medical activities of social significance, community involvement, as well as for clinical excellence.” Among other requirements, a nominee must provide three letters of support from current Distinguished Fellows or Distinguished Life Fellows.

West has published numerous articles and presented on a national and international level and has appeared as an expert on Court TV and “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace.” She will travel to Los Angeles in May to be among those honored at the Convocation of Distinguished Fellows during the annual APA meeting.

"As I reflect on my two decades as a psychiatrist, I am so grateful for this journey,” she said. “The experiences I have had, the patients I have had the privilege of treating, and the colleagues I have been fortunate enough to meet along the way have each shaped me in profound ways. Every interaction has been a lesson in resilience, compassion or an ever-evolving understanding of the human psyche."

West is a champion of our clients in and out of the CSS offices. She frequently participates in community and CSS-related events, including Art of Recovery, the American Red Cross blood drives at CSS and local 5K recovery events, as well as running as a member of the Recovery Runners in the Akron Marathon.
